This cake seems to be a "standard" choice for little girls and their birthdays. I've never seen them so that's why I feel an overwhelming fascination with this impressive cake.

Wow! Those cakes are still around? I remember they were all the rage when I was a kid, yet I never went to a birthday party where one was served. They were, and still are, both oddly fascinating and highly repellant at the same time!

You can also bake the cake in a bowl and turn it upside down instead of baking two round cakes.

Make this cake in a 4-cup pyrex measuring cup and you avoid having to mold the skirt. It works really slick!
